399e25cce3 rust: Update dependencies 
This pulls in versions of previously nightly-only crates that can be
built on 1.65 beta.

The Cargo overrides that direct the resolver to the git repositories are
disabled while the version used in tree also happens to be a released
version of the crates, as it should be the case as per [251].

168ec76a17 rust: Update dependencies 
This will allow more components to build on 1.64 stable, and contains a
fix relevant for https://github.com/RIOT-OS/RIOT/pull/18619.

CoAP modules are held back as they appear to need an even newer nightly
than in the current riotdocker to build without feature declarations.

498e531e2f dhcpv6: don't treat zero option as an end-of-payload marker 
As far as I can tell, no DHCPv6 RFC specifies this option. The handling
for the zero option was added in #17736 by @benpicco to fix issues
encountered while trying to retrieve a DHCHPv6 lease. However, I
strongly suspect that the zero option was encountered in this case due
to an out-of-bounds read performed in RIOT's DHCPv6 client
implementation (i.e. the option parsing loop read beyond the packet
bounds). This issue was fixed in #18307 and I strongly suspect that it
should also fix the issue @benpicco originally encountered in #17736. As
such, I propose that we remove the if statement which treats the zero
option as an end-of-payload marker.

sys/string_utils : new (header-only) module for string utilities 
This header-only module provides a `string_utils.h` that currently
only provides the non-standard function `explicit_bzero()` to securely
wipe memory. It may be extended with other utility functions in the
future.

sys/tiny_strerror: add tiny strerror() implementation 
`tiny_strerror()` is a drop-in replacement for `strerror()`, but
instead of a long help message it returns the much shorter macro name
matching the given number.

The (pseudo-)module `tiny_strerror_as_strerror` can be used to
replace all calls to `strerror()` with calls to `tiny_strerror()`.

sys/shell/cmds: improve wording in shell help text 
My spell checker says "receival" should be "reception". Also, the
terms allow list and deny list are preferred over whitelist and
blacklist. But since scripts may depend on the shell command name,
only the help description is changed, not the cmd names.

sys/shell: make cmds submodules 
Previously `shell_commands` was a "catch-all" module that included
shell commands for each and every used module that has a shell
companion. Instead, the new `shell_cmds` module is now used to provide
shell commands as individually selectable submodules, e.g.
`cmd_gnrc_icmpv6_echo` now provides the ICMPv6 echo command (a.k.a.
ping).

To still have a "catch all" module to pull in shell commands of modules
already used, `shell_cmds_default` was introduced. `shell_commands`
depends now on `shell_cmds_default` for backward compatibility, but
has been deprecated. New apps should use `shell_cmds_default`
instead.

For a handful of shell commands individual selection was already
possible. Those modules now depend on the corresponding `cmd_%` module
and they have been deprecated.

sys/shell: port random shell command to ztimer 
This fixed compilation, as the use of the interal `_xtimer_now()`
function is not compatible with `ztimer_xtimer_compat`. However, this
bug never triggered due to a bug in the build system preventing the
compilation of the shell command. We are about to fix this, so let's
fix the source first.

For Ethernet, raw netifs, and IEEE 802.15.4 netifs only release outgoing
frame with legacy drivers, as gnrc_netif does so with new non-blocking
API.

sys/net/gnrc/netif: provide support for confirm_send() 
This adds support for netdevs implementing the new API that provides
`netdev_driver_t::confirm_send()`. This allows implementing netdevs
in an event based non-blocking fashion, making live of driver
developers a bit easier. In addition, `gnrc_tx_sync` will now throttle
users of `sock_udp_send()` so that they can only send datagrams as
fast as the network stack and hardware is able to send out.

Finally, this lays the groundwork to fetch TX statistics (such as
TX timestamps, reception of layer 2 ACKs/NACKs, etc.) from the network
devices.

Previously `tests/pkg_littlefs2` crashed on the `samr21-xpro`. This
now aligns the buffers in `littlefs2_desc_t` to the alignment
requirement of `uint32_t`.

Specifically the issue causing the crash at hand was that
`struct lfs_free::buffer` is of type `uint32_t *`, so access are
expected to be aligned to `uint32_t`. After this commit, this
assumption is fulfilled.

sys/net/gnrc/netif: allow checking if a netdev is legacy or new API 
A if `netdev_driver_t::confirm_send()` is provided, it provides the
new netdev API. However, detecting the API at runtime and handling
both API styles comes at a cost. This can be optimized in case only
new or only old style netdevs are in use.

To do so, this adds the pseudo modules `netdev_legacy_api` and
`netdev_new_api`. As right now no netdev actually implements the new
API, all netdevs pull in `netdev_legacy_api`. If `netdev_legacy_api` is
in used but `netdev_new_api` is not, we can safely assume at compile
time that only legacy netdevs are in use. Similar, if only
`netdev_new_api` is used, only support for the new API is needed. Only
when both are in use, run time checks are needed.

This provides two helper function to check for a netif if the

06d572c2fc asymcute: fix one byte out-of-bounds access in _len_get 
As per Section 5.2.1 of the MQTT-SN specification, the MQTT-SN length
header is either 1- or 3-octet long. If it is 3-octet long then the
first octet is 0x01. The asymcute implementation currently only checks
that the incoming packet is at least 2-octet long before attempting to
parse it (MIN_PKT_LEN). However, if the first octet is 0x01 the packet
must be more than 3 octet long in order to be valid. Since asymcute
does not check this it reads one octet beyond the packet data for a
2-octet packet where the first octet has the value 0x01. This commit
fixes this issue by adding an additional sanity check to _len_get.

fb660dbec6 asymcute: Compare request message type when matching acknowledgement 
Currently, asymcute only matches an MQTT-SN request to its
acknowledgement using the MsgId header. However, I strongly believe
this to be insufficient as asymcute would thus also match a SUBACK
to a prior PUBLISH message (for example) as long as the message ID
matches. To address this issue, this commit modifies _req_preprocess
to also compare the request message type in addition to the message id.

86dc086379 rust: Bring lock files in sync with toml files 
The riotmodules dependency was missed in bc8ec6d5, and while generally
it does not severly harm builds, it does harm builds riotdocker CI where
branches are switched, which is blocked by dirty files in the checkout.

The riot-wrappers version was missed when what is now 5e75f4bd was
rebased onto fdc4e11a.

f073dcdb3d gnrc_dhcpv6_client: Fix out-of-bounds access during option parsing 
The _parse_reply function iterates over the DHCPv6 message options
twice but only performs sanity checks on the option length in the
first iteration. As such, both loop iterations need to be identical.
Unfortunately, there aren't without this commit as (1) they use
different maximum length values and (2) the first iteration stops
parsing as soon as it encounters a zero option while the second
doesn't. As such, it is possible for out-of-bounds read to be
performed by the second loop iteration. This commit fixes this.

4dcb8edcc8 asymcute: Fix deadlocks in REGACK, SUBACK and UNSUBACK handler 
The handlers for these MQTT message lock the connection mutex on
function entry. During automated testing of asymcute, I discovered
return paths for these function which do not unlock the connection
mutex. This results in a deadlock which prevents asymcute from
sending any further messages.

sys/net/gnrc/rpl: sync access to netstats 
Synchronize the RPL thread updating the RPL netstats with the RPL
shell command reading it by disabling IRQs. This will prevent printing
corrupted data on non-32bit platforms as well as printing inconsistent
data (e.g. TX count of old state in conjunction with TX bytes of new
state) for all platforms.

sys/net/netopt: change NETOPT_STATS semantics 
Instead of retrieving a pointer with NETOPT_STATS, retrieve the current
data. This avoids data corruptions when reading from one thread (e.g.
the thread running the shell (ifconfig command)) while another thread
is updating it (e.g. the netif thread).

The issue affects all boards, as users typically expect the count of
TX packets and the number of TX bytes to refer to the same state. For
16 bit and 8 bit platforms even a single netstat entry can read back
corrupted.

This fixes the issue by just copying the whole netstat_t struct over
without requiring explicit locking on the user side. A multi-threaded
network stack still needs to synchronize the thread responding to
netopt_get with the thread writing to the netstat_t structure, but that
is an implementation detail no relevant to the user of the API.

aaa73b79ed sys/shell/gnrc_netif: List netifs in registration order 
The netif list is used like a stack, so it needs to be
iterated in reverse to keep the registration order.

Time complexity in O(n^2), but the the list is normally very short
(1-2 items).

Before:
```

Iface  7  HWaddr: 24:0A:C4:E6:0E:9F  Link: down

```

Now they are in the increasing order:

When lwIP is hacked to use the same shell command, it also
lists it interfaces in the expected order (was ET1,ET0 before):

11e40a9d61 nanocoap_sock: fix wrong assertion 
The assertion is a bit overeager.
In case of receiving a wrong message ID, we re-try receive without
entering the STATE_REQUEST_SEND state again, so it is expected that
we get a non-NULL ctx/response from sock_udp_recv_buf().

What this assert should actually check is that we don't get a non-NULL
ctx after calling sock_udp_recv_buf() with a non-NULL ctx.

So make this explicit to not falsely fail the assertion.

d102bf90ea gnrc/ipv6_auto_subnets: always send RIO to upstream network 
In a881af8b08 we would return early if the subnet did not change,
but we must still send the router advertisement with the route information
option to the upstream network, otherwise hosts in that network will not
consider the downstream subnet off-link.

Module to lock the running shell with a password. Shell is proceeded only
when the valid password was entered by the user. After 3 failed attempts,
the input is blocked for a few seconds to slow down brute force attacks.
Does not make use of any cryptographic features yet.

If a socket is created we must also call sock_udp_recv() on it as
otherwise messages will get stuck in it's queue until the socket is
closed (which might be never).

If applications only want to send without receiving, they must use
sock_udp_send().

bf5926283b gnrc_netreg: drain mbox on unregister 
If there are still messages in the mbox when gnrc_netreg_unregister()
is called, we must release the associated pktbuf snips, otherwise
they are leaked away forever.

E.g. `sock_udp_close()` was called without receiving all messages with
`sock_udp_recv()`.

f544890056 gnrc/nib: don't add routers from WPAN as default router for 6LBR 
This avoids a race condition where the default router slots for the 6LBR
are used up by router advertisements from the 6Lo network that arrived
before router advertisements from the upstream network.

The border router should ignore 'default routers' from the 6Lo network as
it consitutes the uplink for that network.

drivers/saul: use const qualifier for data to write 
This makes life easier when calling e.g. `saul_reg_write()` with data
stored in flash.

As now the signatures for reading and writing differ (in that `const`
qualifier only), `saul_notsup()` is split into `saul_write_notsup()`
and `saul_read_notsup()`. However, one is implemented as a symbol alias
of the other, so that ROM consumption remains unchanged.

gcoap_forward_proxy: only leave upstream validation for caching 
Most of the caching operation was moved to the client code. Since the
forward proxy is using that code for upstream messaging, interacting
with the cache directly is not necessary anymore.

The only cache-related thing necessary for the proxy is validating ETags
from upstream. However, that can be done by just looking at the ETags
from the upstream response (which may or may not have come from the
cache).

4295104866 vfs: fix dir detection in vfs_sysop_stat_from_fstat() 
`vfs_sysop_stat_from_fstat()` is a fallback implementation of `stat()`
based on `fstat()`.
It will open a file and call `fstat()`.
This fails if the target is not a file but a directory, which means that
directories are not recognized as such.

To fix this, try to open the path as a directory if opening it as a file
fails. If this succeeds, set the `S_IFDIR` flag.

eecac6945b nanocoap: Add handler for resource-based subtrees 
This adds a coap_handler_t function that can be used to parse new
subtrees. The subtree information is included in the context pointer of
the call and must be of type coap_resource_subtree_t. This object then
contains the pointer and length of a different coap_resource_t instance.

This removes the need for a user provied work buffer from nanocoap.
Instead we let the user operate directly on network stack internal
memory and provide a callback mechanism to make sure the memory is

37a4fffb17 sys/net/dhcpv6: consider option 0 an end marker 
The REPLY of a TP-Link router (WR400 v4.20) ends with a 0 option
that has a bogus length.
When subtracting the length from the remaining length, we get an
underflow (remaining `len` is 3, option len is 4).

To get a working DHCP response, consider 0 (Reserved) an end marker.

922a1d7c9a sys/net/dhcpv6: make sanity check more lenient 
If we did not enable downstream interfaces yet but have IA_PD enabled
or if we did not configure an interface for IA_NA but have the module
enabled, don't discard the DHCP reply.

If a server does not support an option it will respond with an error
code.

15f210e4e4 gnrc/nib: don't advertise /128 prefix for auto-configuration 
A single IP address will be added as a /128 prefix.
It makes sense to advertise it, as neighbors can then know that
the address/prefix is on-link.

It does however not make sense to advertise the prefix as suitable
for auto-configuration.

20e68fbb68 sys/xtimer: switch default backend to ztimer 
With this commit xtimer will always be implemented with ztimer.
The default compat layer will be ztimer_xtimer_compat, so xtimer
calls will be inlined to ZTIMER_USEC, or ZTIMER64_USEC when the
64bit xtimer API is required.

This can be reverted by adding 'xtimer_no_ztimer_default' module
to a build.

0b1453667e sys/xtimer-ztimer: rework dependecies to ease backend switch 
This adds a xtimer_no_ztimer_default that is currently always
selected in Makefile, but that can be switched off in Kconfig.
Removing its inclusion will allow switching the default xtimer
backend to ztimer, while allowing for an easy way back.

805bfc754a pkg/fatfs: enable exFAT support 
Enabling exFAT requires enabling long file names, so enable LFN if
exFAT is enabled.
exFAT (and LFN) also requires bumping the per-file/per-dir buffer.

Can be tested with

    CFLAGS += -DFATFS_FFCONF_OPT_FS_EXFAT=1

2e2daae5d0 sys/sema: use sema_ztimer64 to implement old sema api 
This PR removes the old xtimer based implementation for sema. Since
this implementation used 64bit timeout, backweard compatibility is
kept by having `sema_wait_timed` be implemented by `ztimer64_usec`
which is enabled by selecting `sema_deprecated`

With this 64bit `sema` api is now deprecated.

- for ctap hid timeouts xtimer was used, use ztimer64_msec instead
  since the code is using absolute times, an already using ztimer_msec
- use event_timeout_ztimer instead of event_timeout to not pull in

c09d9d87b7 sys/posix/pthread: newlib compatibility 
When using a toolchain with built-in POSIX thread support, static C++ constructors use a static mutex variable which is initialized with `pthread_once` when first used. However, since RIOT's `pthread_once_t` type is different from that in newlib's `pthread`, which is assumed by GCC, RIOT crashes as soon as static constructors are used.
Changing the `pthread_once_t` type to be compatible with newlib's `pthread_once_t` type solves the problem and allows the RIOT `pthread` modules to be used even with toolchains with built-in POSIX thread support.

23a8659bdf introduced DTLS support for
CoAP, but did not make it possible to select the transport on request.
Since switching between CoAP and CoAPS (CoAP-over-DTLS) as client is a
valid use case (one might want to e.g. talk to one server over CoAP and

b9b0ca8972 sys/shell/vfs: Use vfs_iter_mount_dirs instead of vfs_iter_mounts 
This solves highly theoretical race conditions of file systems being
unmounted in an application while a shell `df` runs, fixes the previous
weird behavior that `/mountpoint/non-existant-path` could be df'd and
would even report that non-existant path as a file name, but more
practically ensures that an example of vfs_iter_mount_dirs is around.

f0e80ee10c tests: Cover vfs_iterate_mount_dirs in a new test 
... adding precision to the documentation where a corner case was
discovered during testing and is permitted.

The test is too large for one small board, just like the other existing
VFS test.

9a319a9b4f sys/vfs: Iterate over file systems in sequence 
This is a cosmetic change when considering vfs_iterate_mounts alone
(which now reports FSs in precise mount order rather than reporting the
most recently mounted, followed by the rest in mount order), but is
helpful for uses of it that need some guarantees in order to produce
reliable results even when iteration and (un)mounting interact.

When using static initializers uninitialized fields are set to 0, or
NULL for pointers. But when using event_callback_init() on non
static variables event_callback_t structure may hold non 0 values.
This will lead to the event never being called since if super.list_node.next
is not NULL as it is considered already in the event queue and therefore
not touched.

ae06265de0 pkg/fatfs: VFS: internally handle fatfs_mtd_devs 
This makes FAT behave more like the other file systems supported by VFS.
The `fatfs_mtd_devs` array is populated internally so the application does

72a6ca6366 sys/stdio_nimble: add new stdio module using nimble 
Implement a new module stdio_nimble, which uses nimble
for stdio. The characteristic for stdin is writable and
the characteristic for stdout uses the indicate mechanism
to publish the system's output to a connected device.
Data will be sent out asynchronously via callout functions.

The module can be enabled with "USEMODULE += stdio_nimble"

6f161569f4 suit/transport/coap: use nanocoap for request 
This changes the retransmission timeout behavior.
In SUIT the timeout was uses as the maximum time *all* retransmissions
could take, whereas in nanocoap the timeout was specified per retransmission.

This means that SUIT now adopts the timeout behavior of nanocoap.
